How Much Does It Cost To Paint Parking Lot Lines?

Your parking lot can leave a lasting impression. A well-organized parking lot with clearly marked parking spaces shows visitors that you care about their safety and well-being.

A poorly organized parking lot? That can cause a lot of headaches—headaches that can leave a negative impression of your business.

All of us have experienced poorly planned parking lots at one point or another. We know that clearly marked parking spaces dramatically improve our experience. You can’t put a price on that.

Fortunately, you can put a price on how much it costs to paint those lines—and that’s exactly what we’re going to talk about below:

How Much Does Parking Lot Striping Cost Per Linear Foot?

Parking lot painting is quite affordable. Painting typically costs between 0.16 to 0.40 cents per linear foot. Most parking lot lines are about 18 feet long, which leads to a total of $3.00 to $7.00 per line.

This means that the first parking stall you paint will cost anywhere from $6.00 to $14.00—the cost of two lines. Adjacent stalls will cost less, however, as they use the lines from the previous stall. This means that you’ll only need to paint one line for each adjacent stall—about $3.00 to $7.00.

Depending on the design of your parking lot, the length of a single line can be increased to 36 feet; that line can then be used by up to 4 different parking spaces. Careful design can lead to substantial savings when it comes time to paint.

How Much Do Specialty Parking Lot Lines Cost?

There are a number of different features you might want painted onto your parking lot. They include:

  • Symbols for reserved parking spots (for accessible spaces, for people who are pregnant, and other reserved parking spaces) - on average, these cost $15-$30
  • Stenciled letters and numbers - these can range anywhere from $5 to $200 depending on size, which fonts are used, and how many numbers and letters are required
  • Stop lines - the cost is a combination of line painting and stenciling
  • Arrows
  • Crosswalks - on average, these cost from $50 to $200, depending on style, size, and line thickness
  • No parking, cross-hatching, fire lanes, and other features

The costs of these features can vary substantially. Call us to get quotes for the additional features you want in your parking lot.

What Other Factors Should You Consider When Determining Cost?

There are a number of factors that can affect the overall cost to paint your parking lot, including:

  • The size of the parking lot
  • The kind of paint being used
  • How recently the lot was painted—or if it’s a new lot that needs brand new paint
  • The age of the asphalt

As we just discussed, specialty features will also add to the overall cost of painting your parking lot. Additionally, painting certain features—like curbs—costs more than painting flat asphalt.

New parking lots typically cost 50%-70% more to paint than those that have already been painted. As you can imagine, painting from scratch takes extra effort, as we need to ensure that the parking stalls precisely match the layout that’s been designed for your lot.

Finally, you should consider the condition of your parking lot before it’s painted. If there are potholes, cracks, or other damage, it’s prudent to patch them before painting new lines. Asphalt patching is more expensive than line painting, so this can have a substantial impact on your overall costs.

How Much Time Is Needed To Stripe or Restripe a Parking Lot?

Our painting crews are small—but incredibly efficient. Smaller lots will typically take around 30 minutes to repaint; a 100 stall lot will typically take an hour to repaint. You can expect the timeframe to double for new paint jobs—a 100 stall lot will take us about 2 hours to paint for the first time.

Of course, times vary in the same way that prices do. Painting more complicated features on your parking lot will increase the time to completion. Additionally, completing repairs can take substantially longer than painting, and increase the amount of time needed.

In ideal weather—sunny, dry, and windy—parking lot paint should dry in about 2 hours. As we know all too well, however, the weather in Calgary rarely cooperates. Don’t let anyone drive onto the lot until the lines are dry. Consider hiring us to work outside of regular business hours if closing your lot for a few hours is a concern.
